5,000 years ago, herringbone patterned linen was created in Northern Italy. This weave made the leap to silk sometime after that, and was certainly available as Silk Twill by the time Byzantium started creating their own products. Twill is a fabulously stable weave, created by weaving a weft thread over two or more warp threads, in alternation, creating a diagonal weave pattern.
While highly stable, twill weave creates an uneven textural appearance, so that stains do not show as easily on Twill as on plain or satin weaves. Twill weaving creates a soft drape, and silk creates luster, so that Silk Twill drapes well and does not wrinkle easily, making it ideal for soft summer dresses or elegant pants. Available in two prints for Dark Ages dress to Victorian Elegance or in plain white, which is easily dyed for a custom palette, buy Silk Twill from Damask Raven and create history in style.
